Pay attention to possible causes of low water pressure: • Pressure regulators • Elevation • Home valves • Water leaks • Peak periods • Mineral deposits
Pressure Regulators The water pressure regulator is a bell-shaped device that is usually located below the front hose connection of your house. The regulators are set by the manufacturer. When there are problems with a pressure regulator, it should be changed for another one. If you try to solve the problem by your own forces, you will have further water flow problems. Therefore, it is strongly recommended to apply to a licensed plumber.
Elevation It was observed that water transfers pressure horizontally. Therefore, water pressure is the same, no matter, if the pipe is vertical or not. Thus, the location of a water storage tank should be higher comparing with the homes to let the water flow by gravity.
Home Valves Sometimes, valves can be partially or completely switched off by chance. Make sure that two main valves known as the customer valve and the home valve are turned on. The customer valve is located in the meter box and the home valve is situated near the hose bib, which is the exterior water hose faucet, at the front of the residence. Slightly moved from the "on" position, these valves can lead to the reduction of a water flow.
Water Leaks Observe the pipe for possible damage attentively, because a damage can be the cause of a leak and decreased lower water pressure. Examine the pipe for the availability of a leak. You should read the meter and not the bill. For this purpose you should switch off all water taps inside and outside the home. As soon as you have done it, read the meter. Two hours afterwards if you observe increased water usage, you may have a leak that should be removed.
Peak Periods The cause of low water pressure may be peak hours, the time when many people use water simultaneously. They may water plants or take a shower simultaneously. Thus, you should change your daily routine to avoid problems caused with excessive use of water.
Mineral Deposits If you live in an old houses or on a house with galvanized iron pipes, you may suffer from mineral deposits. You should apply to a certified plumber for help. In many cases, you should examine pipes and see if there are any problems. If the problems are caused with erosion, blockage, or leaks, you should apply to a plumber for help.
