 1. The contractor's name, address, telephone number.
2. A full explanation of the work to be done and a record of the materials to be utilized.
3. An exact date on which work will begin and the length of time for finishing.

5. A condition that the contractor will get any needed permissions or licenses to guarantee the proprietor that building codes will not be infringed.
6. Aspects of payment -- the down payment, monthly payments, number of payments, the total value, and yearly percentage rate. The annualized percentage rate is your key to evaluating costs for the minimum rate.
7. An account evaluation that the contractor is in charge of insuring his workers against probable injury on the job.
8. A guarantee or assurance with all conditions explained. For instance, if what the contractor offers doesn't settle the water issue, what is the firm required doing and what are the options?
9. The contractor's signature and local or state licensing number, if license is compulsory.
If you intend to finance the work and the terms of agreement could give the contractor a lien, mortgage on other security interest on your house, or if you are requested by a door-to-door vendor, confirm the agreement includes a provision permitting you to terminate within three business days after signing it without fine.
When signing the agreement, confirm that all blanks are filled in, and that it includes everything the contractor guaranteed. Do not trust in oral guarantees.
Check that you have a copy of the written agreement, signed by both sides, should you have problem with the contractor afterward.
If and when the contractor asks for your signature on a finishing certificate, examine the job cautiously to notice that the work has been done acceptable, before signing.
Even if the job is completed, do not sign the finishing certificate if you have an active grievance about the work. It is quite reasonable, for cellar waterproofing work, to postpone signing until after intense rains have come, or a particular period of time has passed.
